The club is approximately 14 years old and originally was a modular group. Two years ago an 1800 square foot building was purchased. A permanent model railroad is now under construction. Track and electrical work are almost complete. Scenery is approximately 20% complete and is based on eastern foothills with a large city. The layout features two independent mainlines, fourscale miles each, a division yard with engine facilities, a passenger station, a staging yard and a storage yard. Industries include a power plant, chemical plant, coal mine, intermodal facility and dock, logging and sawmill, grain elevator and an industrial complex. Trolley operation between the city and the passenger station is planned.
Both DC running and DCC operation are possible. The two mainlines are interconnected at points so that during operating sessions they can be used as one eight mile run with passing sidings.
MODULES
We recently built a twenty unit modular layout based on a circa-1950 Florida theme. This model railroad display is utilized to generate revenue, typically in the form of a donation, for partial funding of our club. Each module is approximately 2' by 4'. Several display options are possible. Arrangements can vary from our club setting up and operating the modules to rental of the modules for an extended time period. The modules were on display at the Great American Train Show at the Central Florida Fairgrounds (Orlando) September, 2002 and at the Okefenokee Festival at Folkston Ga. in October, 2002. Photos of the modules can be seen on this web page. For more information contact Paul Sartori (407) 207-5790 (anytime) or John Hathaway (407) 841-1485 (days).
